It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley (2025)

Screening with Director Amy J. Berg — Introduction & Q&A

It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley is an intimate and searching portrait of Jeff Buckley—an artist whose singular voice, emotional openness, and uncompromising devotion to music left an enduring imprint despite a tragically brief career.

Directed by Amy J. Berg, the film moves beyond mythology to explore Buckley as both an extraordinary talent and a restless, searching human being. Drawing on archival footage, rare recordings, personal writings, and reflections from those closest to him, It’s Never Over traces Buckley’s journey from inheritance and influence—particularly the shadow of his father, Tim Buckley—toward the creation of a fiercely individual artistic identity.

At the center of the film is Buckley’s relationship to music as a form of total commitment. His performances were acts of surrender: elastic, vulnerable, and unguarded, collapsing the distance between singer and listener. The documentary captures how Buckley resisted categorization and commercial expectation, treating music not as a career strategy but as a calling—one that demanded emotional risk and absolute presence.

Rather than framing Buckley solely through loss or legend, It’s Never Over emphasizes process, devotion, and becoming. It asks what it means to live inside one’s art, and what remains when a voice disappears, but the resonance continues to grow.

Following the screening, director Amy J. Berg will be present in person to introduce the film and participate in a post-screening Q&A, offering insight into the making of the documentary, the challenges of representing an artist so deeply felt by audiences, and the responsibility of shaping a cinematic space for memory, music, and unfinished lives.
